Tim is a subspecialist colorectal surgeon, with a special interest in colorectal cancer, endometriosis, benign colonic disease, proctology, and pelvic floor dysfunction.
After qualifying as a general surgeon at Stellenbosch University / Tygerberg Academic Hospital in 2012, he worked as a general surgical consultant until the end of 2013. In 2014 he was awarded a Discovery Foundation subspecialist award and spent 2 years doing a colorectal fellowship at Groote Schuur hospital. In 2016 he received a Medtronic fellowship to further study on minimally invasive colorectal surgery at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam.
Tim is the head of colorectal surgery and da Vinci robotics coordinator at Tygerberg Academic Hospital and a senior lecturer at Stellenbosch University. He is president of the South African Colorectal Society and a CMSA examiner for the surgical gastroenterology examination.
He is proctor of laparoscopic surgery and recently did the first da Vinci robotic surgery in the state sector.
ABOUT DR IMRAAN MIA

Imraan is a subspecialist colorectal surgeon, with a special interest in minimally invasive surgery, colorectal cancer, pelvic floor dysfunction, proctology as well as benign colorectal diseases. He is Capetonian, having matriculated from Bishops and attaining his MBChB degree from the Univeristy of Cape Town. Imraan then completed his 5-year specialist surgical training at Stellenbosch University, attaining both his FCS and Masters degrees in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Thereafter he completed a 2-year fellowship in colorectal surgery at Stellenbosch University/Tygerberg Academic Hospital, where he currently works as one of two consultant colorectal surgeons. Imraan has a keen interest in minimally invasive surgery, both laparoscopic and robotic. He is part of the da Vinci robotics surgical team, having travelled to Lyon, France to complete his robotic accreditation. During his fellowship Imraan gained proficiency in pelvic endorectal sonography, where he combined with urogynaecologists managing complex obstetric perineal injuries. Pelvic floor pathology is one his keen interests, aiming to restore quality of life to those affected. He also has a special interest in endoscopy, performing both routine and interventional colonoscopies. Away from surgery, Imraan is married to Ghowa, a medical microbiologist, and they have three young children, who keep him on his toes. He is also a keen runner and sports enthusiast.
